Do you know the "trick" to stop a Quadrajet from flooding at idle?
First rebuild the carb with factory parts.
If, after you have rebuilt the carb, you still have flooding in the
venturis', then do an idle mixture screw adjustment as best as possible.

The prodedure for adjusting your idle mixture screws is simple.
You will need a special tool to fit the adjusting screws.
You adjust the idle mixture screws as to raise the engine idle
as much as possible. First adjust one, then the other.

If the idle gets too high, then lower it with the idle STOP screw.

Note that this all must be done on a warmed up engine with the choke
in its fully open position.

If dripping fuel can still be observed in the primary venturis' then
get two very sharp pencils.

Yes. I said pencils. Very sharp pencils.

Look for two VERY small holes which are located in the top area
of the primary venturis'. These holes are very tiny.

Don't get the wrong holes! If you see brass in the hole then
you are looking at the wrong holes. The holes are drilled into
the aluminum.

With the engine at idle, block the two holes with your finger tips.
Did the flooding cease?

If placing your fingers over the two holes stopped the flooding
then you not only have found the correct holes but you have also
confirmed that blocking these two holes will help.

Push the tip of the pencil into the hole as break off the tip.
The lead of the pencil will plug the hole for quite some time.

Don't ask me where I learned this tip. I will only say that I learned
it from someone who worked for Mercruiser.
