Welcome to Volvo Engine Tips by Sterndrives.Com

We feel obligated to help our Volvo customers to keep their Volvo Marine Engines running in top condition.

Before you paint the bottom of that boat for the first time know this...
Volvo recommends a one inch border of NO PAINT around the transom sheild.
This will reduce galvanic corrosion damage to the transom shield, drive and other submerged parts.

Different Volvo drives use different drive oils. Some use synthetic, some use a mineral oil type lube and others will run fine on regular 30 Wt. engine oil. Check which oil YOUR drive(s) should use and stick with it!

Some Volvo engines have a little diode/resistor hooked up to the alternator charging system which, when blown, may prevent the engine from starting!

Grease your prop shafts frequently! Volvo props can really get stuck on the prop shafts when not fully greased. Sometimes props actually have to be cut off AND the lower unit resealed!

Carry a spare water pump impellar and gasket. Also make sure you have all the tools to replace a fried pump impellar. Thats a great feature about Volvos, the water pump is on the engine!

Don't let barnacles grow on your u-joint bellows! This will lead to damage FOR SURE!
